Environmentally conscious shoppers can this month load up their shopping trolleys at a Somerset garden centre guilt-free.

As part of its ongoing green initiatives, Monkton Elm Garden & Pet Centre at Monkton Heathfield near Taunton has recently sourced refurbished supermarket trolleys to add to its various recycling initiatives.

Norma Moore, General Manager of the family-run, independent garden centre, said: “We’re very aware of our green credentials at the garden centre so we’re delighted we’ve been able to buy in for our customers these quality recycled trolleys.

“We already stock a range of eco-friendly products for our customers to buy including EcoCharlie Natural Slug and Snail Deterrent and Enviromesh, vegetable netting sold by the metre that naturally protects crops. All of our houseplants are sourced locally to reduce the impact we make on the environment and we even grow our own vegetables on-site.

“By introducing these recycled trolleys we are providing our customers with an environmentally sound way to carry their potential purchases while they are in-store, which gives them that extra excuse to indulge in a spot of retail therapy.”

The garden centre’s new trolleys were refurbished by Wanzl, the world’s leading self-service retail equipment manufacturer. The company supplies a wide range of shopping trolleys and transport trolleys to its clients in the retail, travel and hospitality industry.

Norma added: “The recycled trolleys are of a standard size, easy to manoeuvre and provide a smooth ride, which we hope will help enhance visitors’ shopping experience. I hope that lots of people will come and take one of our second-hand trolleys for a spin.

“We also provide trolleys with infant seating so parents can keep their children comfortable and safe while they browse the store as well as wheelchair trolleys for our less-able customers.”
