'Great success' for annual show

Crowds turned out to see the Burnham-on-Sea & District Horticultural Society’s 43rd annual show at Sanders GardenWorld in Somerset last weekend.

The Brent Knoll garden centre provided the venue for the show for the seventh year running on Saturday, August 14 and Sunday, August 15.

Peter Burks, General Manager at Sanders GardenWorld, explained: “We were thrilled to welcome back the Burnham-on-Sea & District Horticultural Society’s annual show for the seventh successive year. This year the show received lots of support, with numerous entries and visitors. It was a wonderful event, which we were happy to support.”

The sections in which competitors were invited to enter included floral art, junior, domestic, handicraft, such as hand-made cards, cross stitch, tapestry, crochet and knitted items. People were also able to enter sections for amateur photography, pot plants, flowers, wines, fruit and vegetables.

The Society’s Treasurer, Les Wallis, explained: “The Burnham-on-Sea & District Horticultural Society was delighted to be able to hold its 43rd annual show at Sanders GardenWorld. It was a great success and we would like to thank the garden centre for its continued support.”

Entrants had the opportunity to win a variety of prizes such as cups, shields and medals in the competition’s 10 sections and 133 classes. Classes were available for children in two categories, under 11-year-olds and 11 to 16-year-olds.
