Garden Party for Prince of Wales

Lancaster House

The Prince of Wales and his neighbours shall be opening their gardens to the public for the Prince's 'A Garden Party to Make A Difference'.

The public will be able to peruse the historic gardens of Clarence House, Lancaster House and Marlborough House from September 8th to September 19th.

A partner of the event, B&Q, announced today that there will be a series of innovative installations at the event, designed to help green up the nation . They will apparently aim to inspire, engage the public and make it easier for them to start to live a sustainable life.

'Tune Up Your Central Heating', 'Let's Talk Water Savings', 'Natural Insulation Means No Sleepless Nights', 'Fresh Air Is Free', 'Paint Recycling In Action', 'Plant Beautiful Bulbs', are just some of the fun installations, which will feature radiators on a bandstand, sheep climbing a ladder and a giant shower head. The DIY giant hopes that the eye-catching sets, which will feature top tips and explanations of benefits of sustainable living, will help visitors implement a greener lifestyle.

The festival, part of The Prince of Wales's 'Start' initiative, is designed to give people of all ages a fun day out, whilst also demonstrating the small steps that can be taken to build a more sustainable future, according to organisers.

The Prince of Wales said at the launch in June: ""I am delighted to be able to welcome visitors into my gardens, and those of my immediate neighbours, for this exciting festival. We have a fantastic team of talented curators who are helping us create an event, which will, I hope, be both fun and informative. This festival is just one way in which Start can help to demonstrate how we can all make a difference, however big or small the steps we take."

Other programmes at the event include music, created by Jools Holland, comedy, with Marcus Brigstocke and Hugh Dennis, growing and gardens by Alan Titchmarsh, and fashion by Dame Vivienne Westwood.
